Yes, contrary to popular belief SEO is indeed NOT a spectator sport!
Three words: Social Semantic Web. What does this mean? In a nutshell, it means you had better be actively engaging your audience in social forums if you want your SEO and content marketing plan to work. The problem tends to be either A) you’re legitimately busy and can’t consistently find the time or B) you have the time but you just don’t want to be bothered (don’t even get me started).
Make no mistake…Google and all the search engines are factoring your social interaction into their search algorithms. That’s what social semantic web is all about.
