You can get a degree in almost anything, but degrees don’t always translate to expertise or results, and there are plenty of scams out there. Banana Degrees was created as a way to call out the influx of fake certifications, poke fun at it all, and be silly with your friends. You can use it to create silly, clearly fake degrees for anything, and it will generate a styled PDF of the “banana degree” based on the input you provided for a small fee. It’s a way to “go bananas” with a professional twist.
The Functionality
Banana Degrees may be silly and seem like it’s fun and games, but it is still built on useful functionality. PDF generation has come a long way since this was originally built, but there is value in being able to define fields in a simple form and create a function that automatically generates a PDF into a stylized, reusable template using that customized input. Adding credit card processing and charging a small fee were simple ways to add and test ecommerce functionality.
Practical Business Use Cases
Although automated PDF generation is being used for fun in this instance, there are practical business use cases for it. Businesses that collect and/or present data and information on their websites in PDF formats and need to consistently and regularly update those reports can use this functionality to do it efficiently. Businesses and organizations that regularly generate certificates of recognition or other “unofficial” certificates can use a similar automated PDF generation function to create them.
