Writing a successful call to action can either make or break your marketing campaigns. Your calls to action need to motivate your audience to do something, and they need to be clear and effective. Here’s how to write successful calls to action for your small business marketing campaigns.

What is a Call To Action?

A call to action (or CTA) is the part of your advertisement that tells your customer what action they need to take. Forgetting a CTA in your marketing campaign is one of the common content marketing mistakes to avoid.

The simplest example of a call to action is ”Buy now!” You want enough information in your call to action to tell your customer base what to do, but not too much that it overwhelms your customer base.

Here are some tips you can use to write successful calls to action for your business marketing campaigns:

1. Use a Strong Command Verb

You want to be clear and concise in your CTA. You need to communicate to your audience exactly what you want them to do. Keeping things clear and concise is also one of the ways to get your content noticed, so keep that in mind as you write your calls to action.

Start your CTA with a strong command verb. Tell your customer what to do. You also need to use verbs that correlate to your business or service. For example, if you run an ecommerce site or shop, use verbs like “buy”, “order”, or “shop”. If you are in media or are trying to get views on a newsletter, try words like “watch”, “read”, “listen”, or “subscribe”. If you want more information from your customer base, try a phrase like “fill out our form here”.

The goal here is simply to tell the audience what they should do and how to do it. Writing a strong CTA with a command verb is one of the essential elements to a successful email marketing campaign, so learning this now will be useful in more ways than one.

2. Be Enthusiastic!

If your CTA isn’t enthusiastic, you won’t get results. You set the tone for your customers. If you want a customer to check out your sale, try something like, “Buy one item, and the second 50% off!” Not only is this enthusiastic, but it also conveys more details of your campaign.

Adding a simple exclamation point is a great way to convey enthusiasm. Don’t go overboard with exclamation points, but using them here and there will help garner excitement over your service or product.

3. Get Creative

Don’t be afraid to get creative with your calls to action! A unique CTA may get more clicks or hits than the same CTA most businesses use. There are good, reliable calls to action to use because they work, but don’t be afraid to mix it up a bit.

Just be aware that it might require a bit of trial and error. But, the only way to know if it’ll work is to try it out.
